NAME: Deacon Frost
NICKNAMES/ALIASES: Frost, D, D-man.
AGE/DATE OF BIRTH: Looks late 20s; Actual age around 100; he was born in 1899.

POWERS: Physically, Deacon is preternaturally strong. He has enhanced senses and dexterity, and is able to regenerate from any wound (over time), as well as being able to withstand much more physical damage than an average human. [according to the Blade Wikipedia Page Frost absorbed the abilities of the 12 pureblood clans (including immunity to silver, instant regeneration of lost limbs, daywalking, mind-, matter-, and element control), but this makes him a little too Gary-Stu-ish for my liking. So, I’d prefer to keep him as he was pre-Magra, assuming that when Blade killed him, La Magra was destroyed, and Deacon was returned to his ‘normal’ vampire status for the game.]

HANDICAPS: Silver, sunlight, garlic, stakes. And beheading, but that’s not exactly healthy for normal humans, either.

APPEARANCE: His height verges on short (for a man – 5’8”), something which he’s a little self-conscious about. He appears much taller, however, because of the sheer force of his personality. Deacon has dirty blonde/brown hair which is permanently gelled, long bangs which hang in his eyes. Those eyes in question are very pale blue; it’s clichéd, but they could be described as similar to a Husky’s. He has a small scar that bisects one eyebrow, and permanent stubble.

Full pouty lips cover fangs that are otherwise always visible – he doesn’t believe in hiding who he is. Deacon is always clad in a button down shirt and dress pants, usually in monochromatic colour schemes – black leather jacket with white shirt and black pants, or a black shirt with cream pants. He has, however, has been known to wear a deep turquoise velvet blazer, when he’s feeling particularly excitable.

PHYSICAL QUIRKS: : Smokes almost constantly. He’s very expressive with his hands, and usually has a white band-aid wrapped around one finger. It covers one of the two scars that giveaway his lack of a pureblood ancestry – the other is a faint scar through his eyebrow, which he’s unable to disguise. He paces whenever he’s excited or stressed, nervous energy meaning he finds it hard to sit still. He often snarls when he’s angry – literally.

SPECIAL ABILITIES: Frost is a talented businessman, using his persuasive manner (and when that fails to work, his thugs) to broker deals that no normal human could possibly hope to achieve. He’s had time to kill, over the years, and has learnt to use a sword fairly well. It’s one of the few weapons with a decent chance of killing his fellow vampires, and while he prefers to use sunlight or his underlings to take care of any little ‘problems’ that might crop up, he’s more than capable of handling himself in a fight.

RELATIVES: Well, considering his relationship with Rebecca Brooks, and the fact that her son became half-vampire…I suppose technically Blade’s sort of his son.

OCCUPATION: Entrepreneur/Nightclub owner by trade.

EDUCATION:Self-taught, for the most part. Deacon was bluecollar immigrant by background, the son of an Irish mother and a Czech father. He’s a fast learner, and has fully embraced technology – something the purebloods don’t seem to have done as quickly. He’s fascinated by computers, and always has to have the newest gadget. Nonetheless, he is as conscious of his lack of formal education as he is of his ‘impure’ blood, and any conversation which threatens to go over his head leaves him ill at ease (and usually fairly aggressive).

TELL US SOMETHING WE DON'T KNOW: He’s an excellent dancer, and a secret fan of soul and funk music. His favourite song to dance to is Stevie Wonder’s Superstition. Kind of like this.

HISTORY: Deacon was born at the turn of the century, a time of invention, of hope for the future. The First World War, and the Depression that came after, put paid to that hope. Deacon was the younger son of a blue-collar immigrant family. His mother, Niamh, worked as a seamstress, while his father Tomasz worked in a meat-packing plant. Coming from a mixed Irish-Czech family, Deacon never really felt at home in either community, and talked and fought his way out of the neighbourhood. He worked for low-level gangsters, running errands, becoming trusted by them, and slowly rising up the ranks.

All that changed when he pissed off the wrong gang boss. Turned into a vampire, he left his old life (and old surname) behind, anglicising his surname from ‘Mraz’ to ‘Frost’, practising until he could shed any trace of an accent. Drunk on his new powers, on his new way of life, Deacon wasn’t content with being a message boy any more. One by one, gang bosses in the city started disappearing. Bit by bit, Deacon grew richer, and his followers grew more numerous. Capitalising on the growing number of turned vampires (as opposed to purebloods), Deacon began catering to their more modern tastes. Nightclubs that catered only to vampires, and their unwitting prey. They would spring up in abandoned warehouses, all the areas of the city he’d hung around as a child, and then as one was discovered and shut down, they would move on.

Deacon’s life continued on in much the same way, with only one notable event in an otherwise insignificant timespan. The biting of a pregnant woman by the name of Vanessa Brooks in 1967. She died, but the baby inside her was rescued by doctors in an emergency c-section. That baby went on to become Blade, and (albeit without knowing that Deacon Frost had killed his mother) Frost’s arch-nemesis.

Over the next 30 years, Frost continued to build up his network of half-blood associates and followers, becoming powerful enough to own a luxurious penthouse apartment that overlooks the city. This was mainly due to his highly successful underground nightclubs, infamous for their ‘Bloodbaths’. The low-key events of the 40s and 50s had changed with the times, and the music, embracing disco, glam rock, the new romantics, up to the 90s with industrial raves. The vampires that attended the clubs were mostly young, newly turned, and achingly modern. Deacon had made the choice long ago to adapt or die, and his empire with him.

While most of Deacon’s revenue came from his clubs, Deacon also appeared to have both an interest in real estate (hence his ability to switch venues quickly) and also in making vampire’s lives more simple. He encouraged research into making humans into essentially living bloodbags, kept in a chemical coma and drained of blood regularly enough to be profitable, but not enough to kill. This plan was implemented in large scale after Deacon’s death, particularly by the Talos siblings and their clan, but the original idea has to be put down to Frost.

Despising the way that the Pureblood clans hid from the world, Frost was determined to drag vampires into the 21st century, and in to the metaphorical spotlight. He believed whole-heartedly in vampire domination – after all, humans were food. Not allies. For the past few years, he’d been researching vampire mythology, and found tales of a vampire God, La Magra, who had the power to cover the world in darkness, and Turn every human on earth. Apparently, Deacon didn’t think about how exactly vampires would survive with no one to eat…He killed the head of the Pureblood Council, Dragonetti, and ‘volunteered’ the other Elders to be used to raise La Magra. He captured Blade’s associate Dr Karen Jensen, and left Abraham Whistler to pass on the message to Blade before he died.

Blade tracked Deacon down to his apartment, and found his mother – alive (sort of), and in Deacon’s bed. It was then he found out that Deacon had been the vampire that had bitten his mother, and he had been keeping her ever since. This was enough to distract Blade for long enough to be captured, stunned into unconsciousness and transported to the vampire temple that Frost had unearthed.

Draining Blade of his blood, Deacon absorbed the powers of the Twelve, and summoned La Magra. Immensely powerful as he was, Deacon/La Magra was not prepared for technology; being comprised entirely of vampire blood, when hit with several ampule injections of EDTA, an anti-coagulant, he – for lack of a better word – exploded.

The last thing Deacon remembers is summoning La Magra; however, he doesn’t know if he was successful. Everything after that is a blank.


PERSONALITY: Deacon has what could best be described as ‘short man syndrome’. He’s always felt inadequate, even before he was Turned. Of course, the fact that he was Turned rather than being a pureblood vampire is the source of most of his little quirks. He has a deep hatred for humankind, and indeed the purebloods – he sees them as outdated relics, stagnating rather than embracing the changes in society. As they look down upon him, so he delights in acting in a manner which vexes them – and indeed, he has as much scorn for them as they do for him. He seeks out those like him – those who have been bitten – surrounding himself with a loyal pack of eager followers. Deacon always has something up his sleeve – he’s quick to anger, though revenge, he finds, is a dish best served cold.

As far as romance goes – he knows exactly what to say, but he’s not exactly a loyal lover. His cocky mouth often gets him into trouble, but he has the confidence and the quick wit to get him out of most situations. If not, he relies on his muscle to deal with those who cross him. Nothing as simple as a stake through the heart – he likes to see his enemies suffer, whether by exposing them to sunlight, or slowly draining them of their blood (admittedly, to summon a God…but he undoubtedly enjoyed the slow, painful – albeit temporary - death of his nemesis). He never thinks small – summoning an apocalyptic vampire God to cover the world in blood and darkness being one of his more logical plans.

He’s well-practiced at convincing others to follow him; he’s a charismatic leader who knows what to say to charm others. Where charm fails, intimidation usually works. He’s well aware of his own attractiveness – and the inherent ‘sexiness’ in being a vampire. Though he seems to be a playboy, he’s an excellent businessmen, nightclub slaughters notwithstanding. In general, he has a highly seductive personality, both professionally and privately.

MISC: I was just wondering if the characters all have to start from scratch when they arrive in the city, or (for example) could Deacon wake up with no knowledge of how he’d got to the city, but with an apartment, contacts, a nightclub, already in place? I’m a bit hazy on quite how it all works.
